“The Shape I Took After You” | Original Oil Painting by Gelovna size 24 x 36in FRAMED canvas.

This painting was born from the private story of a man who spent fifteen years inside a marriage that slowly unraveled the life he believed he was building, shaped by silence, distance, and unrecognized manipulation.

He stayed out of devotion to his children, symbolized by the beige plain where a baby sleeps peacefully in a shell, protected by a caring hand.

When the marriage ended it shattered not only the relationship but an imagined life. In rebuilding, he realized the woman he loved and the life he mourned, had never truly existed. This is shown by the faceless female figure walking away with red yarn, leaving his heart and mind tangled—an illusion revealed.

The forest in the top left reflects the grief of something unreal, but also the truth that remained: his children, who became his compass and reason to rebuild into a steady refuge for them.

The work captures a transformation from illusion to clarity and loss to purpose. The kintsugi (“golden path”) vase with a tree bearing its first bloom symbolizes ongoing growth, while the night desert with a night-blooming cereus shows that this is not just about divorce, but about awakening, reclaiming the self, and building a life strong enough to protect what matters most.
